By simply following these 25 ways to save money for Christmas you will able to alleviate the financial stress during this holiday season.
Some of these are so simple; it will only take you a few minutes. You might think twice about a few of these tips, but I can guarantee you that we just did number 25 and saved a few bucks because we didn’t know about it until recently. By following these tips, you might save hundreds of dollars for Christmas. It is up to you to decide how bad you want to save for the holidays.
25 Ways To Save Money For Christmas
- Create a budget. Learning where your money is going is a key part of learning how to get control of your money. A budget is a spending plan and will help you along your debt freedom road.
- 52 Week Saving Challenge. I took on this challenge back in January and I don’t regret it one bit. I have money saved up for Christmas and then some.
- Use coupons. Coupons save you money. When use wisely, savings from using coupons can be big, up to 50% a transaction.
- Set aside your savings. Every time you save money instead of spending the extra cash you just saved, save it.
- Buy items on sale. Every week stores have a sale. These sales cycle, so if you miss it, it will come around again.
- Use a shopping list. Always shop with a shopping list. Write down what you need and stick to your list.
- Write a menu plan for the week. Write a weekly menu plan around items that are on sale for that week.
- Quit eating out. Yes, save your money and don’t eat out.
- Brown bag your lunch. This is simple; bring your own food from home and save the money of buying it at work.
- Make your own coffee. If you add up how much money you spend buying your cup of coffee at a coffee shop or gas station vs. making it at home, you’d be surprised. Making your own coffee at home will save you lot of money.
- Quit smoking. Not only is it bad for you and others around you, it cost tons of money. Your insurance premium will also go down as well. You will also live longer.
- Quit buying alcohol. Beer and liquor is not cheap my friends.
- Buy Energy Star rated appliances. You will surprise how much money you will save when you buy Energy Star appliances. Around this time of the year appliances go on sale. If you are going to take advantage of purchasing appliances for your home, invest in Energy Star appliances. These appliances will save you money on your electric bill.
- Stop getting your nails done professionally. Save that money and take care of your own nails.
- Have a yard sale. Get paid for your stuff! This is a great way to get rid of your unwanted items and make some cash.
- Insulate your home during the winter. Cover your windows with plastic if you have to.
- Make homemade meals. Stick to basic homemade meals and create them from scratch. It’s cheaper and healthier.
- Turn off and unplug your appliances. If you are not using it, then unplug it. This helps bring the cost of your electric bill down.
- Use Swagbucks to earn free giftcards.
- Don’t over spend on gifts. Your children will be fine if they only receive one gift from Santa. Overspending on gifts is where our money goes during the Holiday season.
- Get rid of cable. You don’t need all those channels. Find other alternatives to watching TV like Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and such. I can guarantee you that there will be tons of Christmas movies there.
- Find the right mobile plan for you. Do you need a smart phone? Compare service plans and see what plan works for you. You might be surprise how much money you will save.
- Don’t use your credit cards. If you have credit card debt, don’t use your credit cards. During Christmas time is where we go crazy shopping, for that reason leave the credit cards at home when you go out shopping.
- Switch Insurance. Every two years, switch insurance. You will be surprised how much money you will save.
- Make your own items. Make your own laundry soap, it will save you tons of money. Make your own cleaners. Vinegar is a great cleaner, and it is so cheap.
